Toby Whithouse Interview: New Vampire Character Will Replace Mitchell & More Info

During ComicCon 2011, SFX.co.uk interviewed Being Human creator and writer Toby Whithouse. He discussed the upcoming season and gave the following bits of information:
  • They've created 'a new vampire character' that we will meet in episode 1 and will 'come into the house' in episode 2
  • There is a 'fantastic' 'new actor' playing that role.
  • There will  be a 'new chemistry' inside the house.
  • The old vampire we met at the end of Series 3 will play a 'huge' role in Series 4
  • We will actually meet the 'old ones' towards the end of Series 4
  • There is going to be a new supernatural creature (at the moment, this may change in the final episode)
  • The new creature isn't a troll, but if Whithouse could make it work, he would do it
The video interview can be watched on the SFX website.

Being Human Series 4 Production Begins in Barry

The residents of the town of Barry have welcomed back the cast and crew of Being Human UK, as they return to the location to begin filming for Series 4.

Cast and crew from BBC supernatural drama Being Human are back in the town to film the fourth series of the cult hit, after basing themselves here for the third series last year.
And Barry resident Gary Rowe has once again welcomed them all into his home, which earlier this year featured on screen as the main characters’ guesthouse of choice.
Mike Gallivan, 3rd assistant director on Being Human series two, three, and now four, said: "I think series three was our strongest. Barry accepted us and we couldn't have picked a better place to go.
"We are very excited about series four. There is so much going on I don't know where to start.

Being Human US Producer Promises 'A Way Different Path' for Season 2

Those who watched both UK's Being Human Series 1 and Being Human Season 1 in the US probably couldn't help but notice the very many similarities to each version and its counterpart. Various scenes and situations were merely repeated and not original to the new US "reimagining" of the show. Many fans were wondering if this trend would be repeated in Season 2 and executive producer Jeremy Carver has an answer.
The original British Being Human is getting ready for its fourth season (or "series" as the Brits call it), and in its first season, the American version was, in some cases, a scene-for-scene remake. "This year, we'll see that we're striking on a way different path," promises American executive producer Jeremy Carver. "We're laying down our own framework here."
Carver also stated that the new season will feature "new types of werewolves, vampires and ghosts".

First Look at Season 2 of Being Human US at Comic-Con

The stars of Being Human US recently took part in a panel at Comic Con, which is taking place in San Diego right now. They shared some information about their characters' development in the upcoming season, as well as shared a few laughs with the audience. The Hollywood Reporter has an article on their site about the panel.
Josh is "stronger and he's more in tune with who he is. His relationship with Norah has developed in very interesting ways," Huntington continued.
Sally, played by Meaghan Rath, said her character (a ghost) has learned "more about who she is in her death than she's ever had in her life. We leave off three weeks after we stopped."
Sam Witwer's Aidan, whose "father figure" Bishop is no longer around, "has been strugglign with going clean," Witwer said. "He had this father figure [for 200-plus years and] at the end of the season, Aidan frees himself from that. If youre trying to get off what is essentially a drug habit," which means staying away from the vampires, it proves to be difficult.
E! Online has posted the video reel shown during the panel to attendees of Comic Con. Most of the video is a recap of the events in Season 1, although there is a short sneak peek of what to expect in 2012 at the very end. You can watch that video below.

More Information on New Being Human Character 'Izumi'

Recently, SyFy announced that Dichen Lachman was to join the cast of Being Human US in Season 2. A press release from SyFy reveals more information about her character.
Dichen Lachman is joining the cast of Syfy's hit original drama series Being Human, produced by Muse Entertainment. Lachman will portray Izumi, a reclusive, centuries-old vampire royal whose unexpected return to Boston's vampire society throws main character Aidan (Sam Witwer) and the city into disarray. Being Human begins production on its second season this month in Montreal and will air in 2012.
Could Izumi be the character that was referenced to in the end of Season 1? We'll have to wait until 2012 to find out!

Toby Whithouse Teases & Updates Fans About BH4

It's been a while since the BBC Being Human blog has been updated, but today the silence was broken by the writer of Being Human himself, Toby Whithouse.

Toby revealed that he is hard at work putting together the scripts for Being Human 4 and attending meetings with other BH executives. He also stated that the first script readthrough will take place in less than two weeks!

Although he wouldn't reveal any specifics about the new series, he did drop a few tasty tidbits.
As ever it's been a joy making this series. Though it didn't feel like it a lot of the time. Each series gets harder to make as, hopefully, we set the bar higher and higher. But I think we've got another corker for you.

You know me well enough by know not to be surprised when I say there's nothing I can tell you about series 4, just my usual cryptic nuggets: There will be lots of new faces, an old face, a genuinely shocking death, a new villain, a sort-of new kind of supernatural (though that could change... we're very fickle...), a new writer and a journey to somewhere even we have never gone before.
Toby also briefly mentioned the BAFTA nods that Being Human received and offered his congratulations for Sherlock.
Oh and thank you for all the Bafta good luck wishes. We genuinely didn't think we stood much of a chance. I can't think of a year where the competition has been stronger. And to have a third series of anything nominated is an honour in itself. Plus, I think Sherlock was a work of genius. Hand on heart, I was delighted for them.

Adam the Vampire will Return in Series 4

Previously, Toby Whithouse mentioned that he would be open to having Adam, the teenage vampire, return to Being Human if a story came up for him.

Now Craig Roberts, who plays Adam, has (somewhat) confirmed that he will be back on the show. He said the quote below in an interview with SFX.
“I believe I am going back for an episode. They’ve not mentioned too much about Becoming Human. If that does get mentioned again I’m all for doing it because I thought it was a great thing. I’m really happy to do Being Human again because it’s a fantastic show, and if Becoming Human wants to go again, I’m game.”
What else do we already know about Series 4? Check out this post to find out!

What Can We Expect in Series 4?

The end of the series for Being Human 3 promised one thing, big changes for the future. We won't get to see new episodes until early 2012, but series writer and creator Toby Whithouse has made some comments about the series which give us a vague idea about what to expect.

Mitchell Will Not Return

Fans hopeful of Mitchell's return in some way (ala Herrick) shouldn't hold their breath. Toby Whithouse has said that Mitchell will not be coming back, since Aidan Turner will not be available for filming. Aidan encouraged Toby to kill Mitchell off in the story line, since he knew that he wouldn't be a part of Series 4.

Tom the Werewolf & Wyndam Will Return

In an EW interview, Toby said that Tom the young werewolf will appear in the new series. He also stated that Wyndam (the old world vampire that interrupts Mitchell's staking) "is coming back" for some of the new season. (Irrelevant Fun Fact: Wyndam is played by the same actor who played Stan Shunpike in Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban.)

Adam the Teenage Vampire May Turn Up Again

In that same interview, Toby didn't rule our the idea of having Adam return and said he might come back if a story comes up for him.

Some Old & New Faces

The Radio Times posted this quote from Toby.
"We've got another intense and epic story lined up for you, with some new faces and old, and even more horror and mayhem and mugs of tea. I can't wait to get started."

One storyline that has yet to be fully completed (or so it seems) involves Kemp. At the end of Series 2, Annie dragged him through the door to save Mitchell, Nina, & George. Who knows that happened to him? Interestingly, the web spin off Becoming Human ended with a similar cliffhanger. Does this mean we might see more of Kemp in the new series?

Also, have we seen the last of Daisy? It's never exactly said that happened to her.

Whatever happens, Being Human 4 is shaping up to be just as exciting and unexpected as its predecessors.

Watch a Young Russell Tovey in this Heinz Advert

Long before he was George Sands, Russell Tovey was just a kid in a Heinz Ketchup commercial. Check out this clip from a late 1990s TV spot featuring Russell, with the some same ears that are his iconic touch today.

On a related note, Russell tweeted yesterday that they are now in the final week of filming of Series 2 for Him & Her.

Sam Huntington & Meaghan Rath Head Out on European Tour

SyFy's Being Human stars Sammy Huntington (Josh) and Meaghan Rath (Sally) have been tweeting while on the road (or in some cases a plane). They will be promoting Being Human in Europe over the course of the upcoming tour. Their latest tweets indicate that they are now in Madrid.
